Plenty Of Fish Review: Company Overview
Plenty of Fish began in 2003, with Canadian Markus Frind setting up a dating site on his home computer – a website he ran single-handedly until 2008 – at which point he decided to take on a few employees. The rest is history.
Extremely rapid growth, celebrity endorsements, wildly unpopular product placements, affiliate marketing mecca-dom, hacking and lawsuits ensued by which time POF.com was the undisputed king of the free dating universe.
Visually the dating equivalent of Craigslist, it has somehow managed to get through a history as flamboyant as it’s originator’s age-range policies to become the 726th most popular website in the world. For a dating site, that’s quite something – even dating behemoth match.com can “only” muster 946th.
It was therefore almost inevitable that in 2015, POF.com became a part of global internet company IAC, a family of over 150 major online brands including the ubiquitous dating app Tinder and dating sites Match.com and OK Cupid.
With a price tag of $575 million, POF now offers a combined member reach to rival many country’s entire populations.
We genuinely hope they don’t change the site too much as POF is what it is and what it is is awesome.
